Georgian National Cybersecurity Strategy Discussed at Donor Coordination Meeting Organized by Data Exchange Agency and British Embassy

On November 26, a donor coordination meeting organized by the LEPL Data Exchange Agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and British Embassy was held at Radisson Blue Iveria Hotel, where the 3rd National Cybersecurity Strategy Paper was discussed.

Currently the process of developing the strategy and its action plan is in the final stages and these documents are being discussed with the involvement of all stakeholders, both public and private sector and donor organizations.

The 3rd National Strategy for Cybersecurity of Georgia is envisaged for the years 2020-2023 and covers all the important directions that are needed to ensure the country''s cyber security.

The development of the Cybersecurity Strategy 2020-2023 began last year when, after several months of active preparatory work by the LEPL Data Exchange Agency of the Ministry of Justice
of Georgia, a study-evaluation team presented with the specialists of the University of Oxford''s Global Cyber ​​Security Capacity Center (GCSCC) arrived in Tbilisi. This organization is one of the leading international research centers in cybersecurity and has already assessed the level of development of cybersecurity in many countries.

Together with the British partners, the strengths and weaknesses of Georgia''s cybersecurity, existing capabilities, ways of identifying threats and vulnerabilities were identified, and specific recommendations were developed.

In the strategy development process, with the involvement of international partners, a number of meetings held with representatives of public institutions and the private sector, as well as the academic sector, in order to establish a direct line of communication with the competent authorities and all the parties concerned to draft a National Cybersecurity Strategy based on the information received through interviews and documentary material research.

Existing methodologies to achieve and maintain a high level of cybersecurity are changing rapidly as technology evolves, so we need to keep pace with timely action and have a document that fits the modern situation. In the process of strategy development we have taken into consideration the interests of both private and public agencies, subjects of critical information systems, as well as the recommendations and best practices of our foreign partners.” – Nikoloz Gagnidze, DEA Chairman.
